Honor the Taken (Tammy H.)

Tammy Hockenberry

“FAIRFIELD, PA. — GOOD – Tammy (Hockenberry), passed away at the age of 47 on Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011, in Fairfield, Pa., after bravely battling ovarian cancer the past four years. Born May 12, 1964, in Johnstown, daughter of Roger and Carol Good; and sister of Kevin Good. Survived by husband, Frederick Hockenberry; stepchildren, Kenneth and Jennifer Hockenberry; as well as her parents Roger and Carol Good. In accordance with Tammy’s wishes, a memorial service celebrating her life will be held at a date to be determined. Tammy was an inspiration to us all, an admiration, and well-loved by all those who came to meet her.”  Click here for a link to this story.

Our deepest sympathy goes out to Fred Hockenberry and his family.  “As well all know, Tammy was an incredible woman of grace, dignity and compassion. She lived her life bravely fighting this disease and never complained about why it had to be her, though she had plenty of reason to do so. And in the end, she passed the same way she lived; with grace, dignity and compassion.”  — Fred Hockenberry

R.O.A.R! would like to offer sincere thanks to those who have made memorial donations to R.O.A.R! in Tammy’s honor.  To date, we have received about $715.00 in her honor.  These funds will be used to support R.O.A.R! in continuing its mission of ovarian cancer awareness.

I was prvledged and had the honor of bringing yoga into Tammys life at the end of her first bout with cancer. I watchedd her grow over the next two years in her practice of yoga into what appeared to be a blossoming lotus flower. I came to love Tammy and I will be forever greatful to have beena part of hr life. I believe she is an angel who is now looking out for those she loved in a more peaceful place.

My life will be forever changed by having had Tammy in it. She was a brave beautiful women who will be missed greatly, though never forgotten.

  • Tammy has touched us all, and in her time as an intricate part of our museum, she was one of the best investigators, staff, and friends anyone could have asked for. She inspired many, and left behind a memory that will never be forgotten. Although she is still out there “partying like a freak.” She will be missed by all. God bless!

Thank you, Jonathan. And again, thanks for your thoughtful donation for our silent auction at this year’s R.O.A.R! on the Floor.

Tammy was/is my friend and I miss not seeing her everyday but I know she is always around. And even if she is “only” here in spirit she is still making a difference in so many lives both with those who were blessed to know her and to those who will learn about her through her family friends and loved ones. Her voice carries on to all those affected by this terrible disease and to those who love her. Thank you Tammy for being wonderful you.
